Rob Graham Drops 5 Ton Anchor To Cut Undersea Cable

Wired reports that while repairing one of the undersea cables between the UAE and Oman they discovered it was cut by an abandoned anchor.

If only it were that simple.

The real truth, only available here, is that Rob Graham of Errata Security deliberately dropped the anchor on the cable to disprove the various conspiracy theories making their way around the net.

Nice try Rob; we won't fall for your talk of "cancer clusters" and "random coincidences". We know better.

TechCrunch has a round-up story indicating that this conspiracy is really just over-hyped. They link to a WSJ blog post with references from an undersea cable expert, and they also link to a story at The Economist that has even more information. It seems that this is just much ado about nothing (*sigh* I was so hoping for a good conspiracy). Check it all out here:
